Samsung is expected to launch its next generation Galaxy S V smartphone tomorrow at its unpacked event which is going to be held in MWC, Barcelona. But today Samsung has officially announced its next generation smartwatch’s, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, later one is the economy version.

Samsung has dropped Galaxy branding as these smartwatch’s does not run on Android any more, instead they run on Tizen OS which is being developed by Samsung and Intel. Gear 2 is the first Tizen powered device which is being available commercially.

Just like its predecessor, the Gear 2 also flaunts a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display screen with screen resolution of 320×320 pixels, it is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor paired with 512MB RAM. It comes with 4 GB internal storage and houses a 300 mAh battery which company claims can last to 3-6 days, depends upon usage. As per connectivity it has Bluetooth 4.0 LE and IrLED, and it has  Accelerometer, Gyroscope and heart rate sensors. Both devices are IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. Gear 2 comes with a 2 MP camera which is missing in Gear 2 Neo and it’s the only difference in both smartwatch’s.

If we talk about its design then this time its more polished and nice, now camera is the part of main body as in previous version was on strap. Samsung has included iR blaster and Heart rate sensor in these devices, which will allows you to use its as TV remote. The Gear 2 Neo is made of plastic while the Gear 2 has a metal face.

As from images its UI looks very much similar to of Galaxy Gear but as this time its not known whether Galaxy Gear apps will be compatible with the Gear 2 or not.The Gear 2 will be available in Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange colors while the Gear 2 Neo will be available in Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange colors and will be available from April this year, there is no word about its pricing yet.
