Time has changed and so our storage need has also changed, earlier couple of GB storage were more than enough for us, but now we need more storage to store our movies, pictures, songs and so on, and when it comes to the storage industry, Seagate needs no introduction here, they are having a product line up for all like the laptop, desktop, or even for NAS, and they provide hard drives both internal as well as external drives to match your needs. Now to make things easier and to solve the ever-growing data and video storage challenges of consumers as well as of organizations, company has rebranded its storage drives and expanded their portfolio under the name, Guardian Series.
The Guardian Series consists of 10TB hard drive models such as BarraCuda Pro, IronWolf, and SeaHawk. The company says they are specially designed for desktops, laptops, network-attached storage (NAS) and surveillance systems.
The new BarraCuda series capacities range from 500GB to 10TB, the speed of BarraCuda line of hard disk drives, ranges from 5,900rpm to 7,200rpm which is well enough to make your task easier and faster, it can transfer data at the rates of up to 210MB/s.
It is available in 2.5-inches laptop form factors which is just 7mm thick, means it is small enough to fit in almost any ultrathin notebooks; it offers up to 2TB of capacity, if you have a desktop, then also, BarraCuda drive comes in 3.5-inches desktop sizes. The drives also come with 16GB to 64GB of DRAM cache.
Not only this, Seagate has also announced BarraCuda Pro, which provides capacity up to 10TB, and it has a 7,200rpm spindle speed and can transfer data at the rate of up to 220MB/s. It comes with a five-year limited warranty.
The 2TB models will be available for $81 and the 3TB models comes at the price tag of $100, whereas the BarraCuda Pro is priced at $535.
To cater the need of organizations, Seagate has refreshed its NAS drive lineup with the IronWolf brand. The IronWolf brand is aimed at NAS devices with one to 16 drive bays and comes with up to 10TB of capacity and Seagate’s AgileArray software pre-loaded on it.
AgileArray software is a very helpful tool which supports error recovery controls, power management and vibration tolerance for reliable usage when used in multi-bay NAS devices. Not only this, IronWolf also comes with Rescue Data Recovery Service plan that protects against data loss from viruses, software issues, or electrical and mechanical breakdowns in a NAS or RAID environment. A failed drive can be sent back to Seagate where its in-house “Rescue Service” will attempt to retrieve data.
IronWolf is rated for up to 180TB of writes per year and the drive can also power down into a sleep mode while not being used which makes it power efficient as well.
The IronWolf has a comprehensive lineup of capacities ranging from 1TB to 10TB. They all support NAS devices from 1 to 8 drive bays and a top cover attached motors for better vibration tolerance.The three largest drives 6TB, 8TB, and 10TB get extra protection through dual-plane balance technology and rotational vibration (RV) sensors.
To give you maximize performance, IronWolf series comes with multi-tier caching technology and can provide an 180TB/year user workload rate.
The Seagate’s IronWolf drive comes with a three-year warranty and is priced at $470.
Earlier Seagate has Sv35 series of hard drives for video surveillance systems, now company has rebranded it to SkyHawk HDD to match the ever growing needs of video surveillance systems.
The new drive has a spindle speed of 7,200rpm and comes with a storage capacity of up to 10TB for storing up to 10,000 hours of HD video.
One thing which many users complaint is that their hard drive gets damaged very soon and the main reason for this is that as the camera is recording and saving video non-stop, which generate heat in the hard drive.
SkyHawk comes with new ImagePerfect firmware from MTC Technology. The main purpose of the firmware is to power down the drive when not in use in a bid to reduce heat generation and excessive power consumption. The HDD then powers up quickly to provide the uninterrupted recording.
Just like IronWolf, SkyHawk drives use rotational vibration sensors to help minimize read/write errors. SkyHawk drives also come with a data recovery services option.
The 10TB SkyHawk HDD is priced at $460 and it also supports up to 180TB worth of data writes per year and has a three-year limited warranty.
