If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and your start screen or taskbar start giving problem to you then you easily fix them and its without the need of reboot to your PC.

Earlier in Windows Vista or Windows 7 you open task manager and the from there you need to close explorer.exe file and then to restart you have to run a process and run explorer.exe from there.

But in Windows 8.1 thing are little easy, all you have to do is press Ctrl+Shift+Esc together to bring your Task Manager up, Once you have your Task manager just head to Process tab and find Windows Explorer and right click on it and restart your Windows Explorer.

If you want to kill the process then you can select end task and then navigate File -> Create new task to bring Explorer up again.
