Today Microsoft has taken wrap off from its fitness tracker, the Microsoft Band which can work as both fitness tracker as well as smartwatch too. Microsoft Band is priced $199 and it will be available from tomorrow. At this time it will be available only in USA, Microsoft band looks like Samsung Gear Fit.

Microsoft has claimed that it is the most advanced technology we’ve seen on wrist, unlike other band this band is fully capable with iOS, Windows Phone, Android and there is a sync app for Mac as well.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Devices and Services :-

Its design to do two things, live healthier, and be more productive, by having a band that can serve on the opposite side of your watch, worn 24 hours a day, and get some of the most accurate data that you can possibly get.

Microsoft Band has 10 smart sensors, like UV sensor for sun exposure, galvanic skin response measurement, heart rate monitor, fitness tracking, sleep quality tracking, stress level tracker and more. It also act as your smartwatch and can notify you for incoming calls, emails, texts and Facebook, Twitter along with weather and stock information, if you are using Windows Phone then you can use Cortana to give commands.

To compete with Apple Health Kit and Google Fit, Microsoft has also announced its own health and fitness app, the Microsoft Health app which fetch data from Microsoft band as well as from other fitness trackers and store information in a single secure location.

With the help of Microsoft’s Intelligence Engine you will be able to get more insight of your activity like the amount of restful vs. restless sleep, which activity has burned the most calories and so on.

Microsoft is going to license 10 sensors which they had developed so that others can use them in their product.  Company is also going to offer APIs and cloud storage for start-ups. Microsoft has partnered with Jawbone, MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper and Starbucks.
