In recent times we had seen drop in the sale of laptops as now you have more powerful tablets which can easily handle your light work and if you do some light work on your laptop then tablets can easily take its place as they are light, easy to carry and do offer more than a classic laptop. At the same time companies are understanding the needs of consumers and they know tablet cant fulfill the need of laptops and at sometime you need your laptop.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

If you too want a tablet but at the same time you require laptop also then carrying both might not be suitable for you, in this case you can take a look at hybrid PC like Lenovo Yoga 3 14 inch which is an multi mode ultrabook, it can work as laptop or you can convert it into tablet also.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

We used it for approximately 15 days and here is our review about this foldable ultrabook.

Build And Design Of Lenovo Yoga 3 14 :-

Lenovo has tried a lot to keep the size and weight of the ultrabook low, and company has succeeded up to some extend and it weight less than 2KG which is quite low, and its only 0.7 inch thick, which is quite thin when you consider it as laptop but at the same time when you use it as tablet then it might feel bulky and you might not be able to hold it for longer period of time.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

To keep its weigh low, company has used plastic on it and it do not feel cheap in any way, its available in two color options, white and black, ours was white or you can say silver variant.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

Lenovo Yoga 3 comes with an 14 inch FHD IPS display with screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, screen is quite vibrant and colors do look good on it, there are very thick bezels around the screen. Above display you have an camera for video calling and you can make HD calls of it.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

There are two hinges which joints keyboard and display, here as well company has used good material and we can say that it will last long no matter how many times you fold it.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

Lenovo Yoga 3 comes with a chiclet keyboard which do support backlit, which means you can easily find keys in dark room. Typing experience over keyboard was very good and you can easily type long letters or even write long review on it ;).

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

It comes with a one-piece touchpad which work well in our case, there is a metal like rim around the touchpad which do nothing just gives an extra look to it. Lenovo Yoga 3 has plenty of palm rest space, which ultimately help you in typing or working on it.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

When it comes to connectivity and ports then on right side of it you have a USB 3.0 port, a Micro HDMI port, volume rockers, a button to turn on or off auto rotate mode (it works in tablet mode only), button for recovery followed by your power and sleep button.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

On left side you have a charging port followed by another USB 3.0 port, 3.5 mm audio jack for your headphone and a SD card reader.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

At bottom of it you have two speakers which gives decent sound of it, its not that great which you might expect, and there are air wings which keeps it cooler. Its a sealed hybrid ultrabook, you dont have access to its battery and replacing any part of it is not simple.

Hardware And Specs of Lenovo Yoga 3 :-

When it comes to under the hood features then Lenovo Yoga 3 is packed with all stuffs which keeps it running and you can make most of it. Hardware specs might change as per your region, our review unit was packed with 5th generation Intel i7 Processor with 8GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 940M and has 256GB SSD.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

For connectivity it supports WiFi, Bluetooth, Mini HDMI, USB and SD Card, there is no Ethernet port which means you have to ensure you are in wireless connectivity range.

Display Of Lenovo Yoga 3 :-

Lenovo Yoga 3 has 14 inch full HD display screen which is quite vibrant, colors do looks very nice on it, text and graphics looks sharp here, however it comes with adaptive brightness which dims the screen very aggressively, so you might need to turn it off.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

Viewing angle on this screen is good and you can view screen for extreme angles as well which means if you are watching movies in group then there would no issue.

Battery of Lenovo Yoga 3 :-

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

Company claims that battery of this device can last for 7.4 hours, in our test we got more than 7 hours of battery time which is again good.

Keyboard And Trackpad Lenovo Yoga 3 :-

Lenovo Yoga 3 has chicklet type keyboard which has nice space and allows you to type easily on it, it has curved keys which do looks nice, I felt its little more soft. You might need sometime to adjust on this keyboard but once you are done, you will have fun on this keyboard.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

As told earlier it comes with one-piece trackpad which has areas for left and right clicks but there are no separate buttons for it although it do its job very well. It do support some of the multitouch gesture controls which you may or may not like, but we lied it very much.

Performance of Lenovo Yoga 3 :-

Overall we were happy with the performance of this hybrid laptop, Lenovo Yoga 3 is powered by  5th generation Intel i7 Processor with 8GB of RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 940M, this ensures you always have enough juice to run your apps on it, but test is not finish until we have some benhcmark scores.

  • We transcoded a full HD video for mobile viewing, and it took around 5 minutes and 8 seconds for it
  • It took around 3 minutes to process a series of RAW images on Adobe Photoshop CS6
  • We converted 5, 320Kbps MP3 to 128Kbps AAC on iTunes and it took less than a minute for this.
  • On Geekbenck, it scored 5230 on Multi core and 2610 on Single core

Final Verdict On Lenovo Yoga 3 :-

Lenovo Yoga 3 is a good contender for hybrid PC, it comes with Laptop and Tablet mode which allows you to adjust it according to your work, and as Microsoft has provided free Windows 10 update which has PC and Tablet mode so it can work more efficiently once you update it to Windows 10.

Lenovo Yoga 3 14

The issue we faced is with screen, which dims the screen very aggressively when adaptive screen mode is on, other than this it provides good performance and has nice battery life as well.
