When it comes to budget laptops, they don’t have good reputation, either they are slow or don’t have good build quality. But Asus has tried to solve this by launching a new laptop under its VivoBook series, the Asus VivoBook X507. It is an entry level laptop which is best suited for people who are college going students or those who are looking for their first basic laptop which just need to have basic web browsing and Office work to be done and if you fall any of these categories then Asus VivoBook X507 is a nice option for you.

Build And Design Of Asus VivoBook X507 –

Seriously when I got mail from Asus team that they will be sending me this laptop and I had check its price tag which is under Rs25K, so I was expecting a laptop with mediocre build and design, but to my surprise, it comes with decent build and design, even this laptop can compete with some premium laptops in terms of build and design.

Asus VivoBook X507 is build up of some premium plastic body material which helps to keep its weight down to 1.68 kg, yes a 15 inch laptop with weight of just down to 1.68 kg.

There were no flex on the body despite of having plastic body, however lid has some flex more than I was expecting from it. For me build of this machine was fine however there were some things which Asus could have implemented to improve it, which we will discuss as we go ahead.

Asus VivoBook X507 Left Ports

When it comes to the connectivity and ports, then left side of Asus VivoBook X507 is very slotted as it has almost all ports on its left side like DC port, a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, LED indicators for power and charging, a microSD card slot, an HDMI port, and finally, a 3.5mm jack.

Asus VivoBook X507 Right Ports

However, on the right side of Asus VivoBook X507, you have just a Kensington Lock followed by a single USB 2.0 port, I wish Asus could have moved a USB port to the right to make a balance.

As this machine is launched at very low price tag, I wont complaint for missing USB Type-C port which is a trend on 2018 however I really appreciate company for giving Micro SD card slot in this price tag.

It is nice to see that Asus has implemented some small changes here and there which looks nice, like the hinges have a curved molding which is different from the usual laptops which use to have rectangle-on-rectangle connected through a hinge.

Hardware And Specs Of Asus VivoBook x507 –

Asus VivoBook X507 Processor

Asus VivoBook X507 is powered by Intel Core i3 6006U Processor and has 4GB of DDR4 RAM which can go up to 8GB. For storage it has 1TB HDD 5400RPM. It has a 15.6 inch Full HD display screen with 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel. It comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and also supports for Bluetooth and WiFi.

Display Of Asus VivoBook x507 –

Display of Asus VivoBook x507 is one of the strong point of this machine, it comes with nano-edge bezels on its side, while top and bottom of the display still has almost an inch-thick bezel, and the bezels on its side are just of 8.1mm, and it has 75.4% screen-to-body ratio, overall display looks quite good and nice for the price tag.

It is a FHD display panel which is nice as in this price tag you will find most of the laptops coming with 1336×768 HD display. Display brightness is also good we never had issue while using it outdoor.

However, in our usage, the viewing angle were not so good, when you view screen from extreme angles you will find colors fading out, however Asus claims 170 degree of viewing angles but once you move behind 130 degree, you will find color distortion, which means two persons can easily watch movies on this laptop but there will be issue for third person.

Software On Asus VivoBook X507 –

Many OEMs use to bundle their own software on the machines, and Asus is of no difference, but some of the bundled softwares are useful and good, like Splendid which lets you select between four display modes – Normal, Vivid, Eye Care, and Manual, and then there is a power management app which makes sure you will get most of your battery.

At its heart, Asus VivoBook X507 comes with Windows 10 Home which most of use are aware of.

Keyboard and Trackpad of Asus VivoBook X507 –

At the starting of this article, I have told you that this laptop might be for two users, one who are first time user and will do casual web browsing only, and one who are college going users and might use MS Word or similar tools then you might have issues with this keyboard.

Asus VivoBook X507 Side Keyboard

Asus VivoBook X507 comes with chicklet keyboard, and keys are well spaced and key travel is also very nice, when pressed, it gives nice feedback to you. Overall its pleasant to type on this keyboard.

At the end of day, it has a 15.6-inch laptop, and has big chassis which had enough space for a full-sized keyboard. Typing on this single piece of keyboard construction is good, issue comes when you start using numpad of this keyboard, it spoils the whole experience.

All keys on numpad are squished together and most the time you either press two keys or wrong key, many times I ended up pressing “.” instead of “0”. If you dont use numpad much the you re good to go.

There is backlit lights and seriously I was not expecting at this price tag as well, however there is no Caps Lock indicator as well which should be there.

Now moving from Keyboard, we have a big trackpad on this Asus VivoBook X507, and it is something which attract us more, first thing first, trackpad on this machine is made of plastic, yes no glass here but still its smooth and easy to use, and you can make use of all the gestures.

Both left and right click require slightly higher press bu still its good. The major point here is that this trackpad comes with Windows Precision Drivers, yes a 25K laptop using Microsoft Windows Precision Drivers where higher end laptops still uses that crapy Synaptics or ELAN.

And then there is a finerprint scanner as well on the track which you can use to login to your system, its nice to see fingerprint scanner in this price tag and this scanner has worked most of the time for us.

Speakers On Asus VivoBook X507 –

In recent times we have seen Asus has included its SonicMaster audio technology on most of its laptops, and Asus VivoBook X507 too comes with SonicMaster but audio quality of this laptop is very poor.

Asus VivoBook X507 SonicMaster

The placement of speakers are bad, they are placed at the bottom which means all sound coming out of them are muffled, so forget using this laptop on your lap, even when placed on desk, audio is just average.

Battery On Asus VivoBook X507 –

Asus VivoBook X507 comes with a 3-cell 33 WHr battery and with this you can get around 3-4 hours of usage which is good for the price you are paying. And if this is not enough, then Asus VivoBook X507 do supports fast charging.

Perforamance Of Asus VivoBook X507 –

The overall performance is quite good of this laptop considering the price tag, display seems good and has great battery as well. On paper it might not look good with Dual-Core Intel i3 processor, coupled with just 4GB of RAM and 1TB of 5400RPM storage but it perform well, yes dont expect much from this laptop as it might not be be to handle Ms Word and Photoshop side by side.

Asus VivoBook X507 LID

My most of the machines has SSD, and while using this laptop I can see apps taking time for opening and Windows also taking time to boot up. However there is an m.2 slot for SSD which you can later on add to enhance the performance.

For light task this laptop perform quite well and it comes with Intel HD Graphics 520 cant do much and you might find some lag here and there, also this GPU is not meant for gaming so you might not be able to play most of the games on high setting.

If you love numbers then here are some benchmark test results for you.

  • PcMark Creative Conventional – 1978
  • PcMark Home Conventional – 2105
  • PcMark Work Conventional – 2350

Final Verdict On Asus VivoBook X507 –

Asus VivoBook X507 is a good choice for those who are looking for their first laptop or if you gonna do just casual browsing. If you want to play games or do video editing or gonna use Adobe Lightroom then you have to look for other options.

This laptop has got a good display panel, nice build quality, however ports placement is not that good and numpad on keyboard could be better.

  • Nice Build
  • Good Display
  • Very light weight
  • Good Trackpad

Cons –
