Recently Opera, one of the most widely used web browser on feature phone as well as on smartphone’s has completed over 50 million users in India, according to the latest statistics released by Opera Software. With this, Opera Mini is now the third largest mobile app used in India after Facebook and Whatsapp. This also makes India as the home of largest number’s of users in the globe.

Opera Mini works across almost all devices including Java, Android, Blackberry, Windows, iOS and the most recent Tizen. Opera Mini 9 for iOS is the first browser to integrate video boost, which optimizes videos and brings down buffering time.

Opera browsers in India

  • Multiple Indian languages support: Opera’s browsers support multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujrati, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Assamese and Kashmiri.
  • Smartphone users spike up: In India, the number of Opera’s smartphone users grew by 110% over the past year and now account for 50% of Opera’s total user base.

Opera Mini’s compression technology and low RAM requirements make it a hit on handsets used in India. 16 Indian handset manufacturers have already preinstalled Opera Mini on over 350 models of Android devices available in the market.

Opera’s CEO Lars Boilesen announced the 50 million user landmark at a flash mob in the National Capital Region. He joined 50 dancers in a fun Bollywood dance, taking people by surprise at a mall near New Delhi. Prior to the meet up, there was a flash mob organized at the mall to break the fantastic news about the milestone.
