Do you know that Windows keeps running many programs in background and some of them are almost useless but as they are running they make your Windows work slow.

So here are some tweaks which will increase your Windows Xp Speed.

  • Go to Start

    a) Click Settings
    b) Click Control Panel
    c) Double-click Add/Remove Programs
    d) Click the Add/Remove Window Components
    e) Uncheck the Indexing services
    f) Click Next

  • Open My Computer

    a) Click on Tools menu
    b) Click on Folder Options
    c) Click on the View tab.
    d) Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box,
    e) Click Apply
    f) Click Ok

  • Right-click on Desktop

    a) Click Properties,
    b) Now in the pop-up dialog box click on Appearance tab
    c) Now click Effects button.
    d) In the new dialog box uncheck ,1) Use the following transition effect for menus & tooltips.
    2.) Show shadows under menus.

  • Remove Desktop background:- Your desktop background image/wallpaper consume some of your memory space so remove it.To remove your wallpaper:-

    a) Right click on Desktop and select Properties
    b) Select the Desktop tab
    c) In the Background window select None
    d) Click Ok

  • Remove Unused Fonts:- As you know Windows has so many Fonts installed but few of them are used by you so remove the unnecessary fonts Or backup them (Copy them to a folder like D:Fonts BackUp).You can delete fonts by:-

    a) Open Control Panel,
    b) Now Click on Fonts Delete/Uninstall the fonts which you don’t use.

  • Disabling Unnecessary Visual Effects :-

    a) Right click on My Computer and select Properties,
    b) Click on Advance tab and then click Setting under Performance,
    c) Now in Performance Option window uncheck the following :-

    i) Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing
    ii)Fade or slide menus into view
    iii) Fade or slide ToolTips into view
    iv)Show shadows under menus
    v) Show shadows under mouse pointer
    vi) Show translucent selection rectangle
    vii) Slide open combo boxes
    viii) Slide taskbar button
    ix) Smooth-scroll list boxe
    x) Use a background image for each folder type
    xi) Use common tasks in folders

  • Type msconfig in run command, and then click on StartUp tab and deselect  all unwanted entries which you don’t want to start at the startup of windows.
  • Disable System Sounds,for this:-

    a) Open Control Panel,
    b) Now Click on Sounds and Audio Devices,
    c) Click Sounds Tab,
    d)Choose “No Sounds” for the Sound Scheme
    e) Click “Apply”
    f) Click “OK”

  • Disable System Restore:-

    a) Open Control Panel
    b) Click on Performance and Maintenance
    c) Click on System
    d) Click on the System Restore tab
    e)Check  ‘Turn off System Restore on All Drives’
    f) Now Click on ‘Ok’

  • Disable/Set To Manual Unnecessary Services:- Right click on My Computer and click on Manage, a pop-up window will appear now navigate to Services & Application => Services.Now double click on the following services and set Disable Or Set To Manual option:-

    a) Alerter
    b) Clipbook
    c) Computer Browser
    d) Distributed Link Tracking Client
    e) Fast User Switching
    f) Help and Support – (If you use Windows Help and Support leave this enabled)
    g) Human Interface Access Devices
    h) Indexing Service
    i) IPSEC Services
    j) Messenger
    k) Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (disabled for extra security)
    l) Portable Media Serial Number
    m) Remote Desktop Help Session Manager (disabled for extra security)
    n) Remote Procedure Call Locator
    o) Remote Registry (disabled for extra security)
    p) Remote Registry Service
    q) Secondary Logon
    r) Routing & Remote Access (disabled for extra security)
    s) Server
    t) SSDP Discovery Service – (Unplug n’ Pray will disable this)
    u) Telnet
    v) TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
    w) Upload Manager
    x) Universal Plug and Play Device Host
    y) Wireless Zero Configuration (Plz don’t disable if you use a wireless network)
