Nowadays demand for SSDs are going up, there are lots of reasons behind this, it could that you want more faster response from your machine which is not possible from traditional HDD, and another reason is that in recent times we had seen prices of SSD are coming down and now they are more cost efficient for users. Couple of months back we had reviewed Adata SP920 SSD.

Adata XPG SX930

And now today we have another SSD from Adata, its XPG SX930 and company is saying that from this they are targeting gamer’s who loves to over clock there machines to get most of it.

Build And Design :-

Inside the box you will find an 3.5″ adapter, an 9.5mm spacer and eight mounting screws which allows you to mount it to your desktop. SSD itself has brushed metal finish which gives a different look to it and make it stand out in the crowd of plastic SSDs.

You can download and install Disk Migration Utility, the Acronis True Image from ADATA’s website which is co developed with Acronis, it allows you to migrate from almost any disk.

Features :-

Like most of the sub-1TB SSD, this one too comes with half-sized circuit board and has 4 ADATA-branded NAND chips on each side, there is controller and cache RAM on one side of the board.

With 240GB of synchronous multi-level NAND, ADATA XPG SX930 can provide 560MB/s of reads speed and 460MB/s writes speed, and as you might be expecting, TRIM and S.M.A.R.T are also supported by this drive. It uses JMicron JMF670H controller which is limited to controlling up to 480GB of data.

SSD Tests :-

To Test this SSD we installed couple of apps on it like :-

  • Adobe Master Collection CS6
  • MS Office 2013
  • Adobe Lightroom

We have installed this SSD to our PC which has Intel i7 chipset with 8Gigs of RAM and Windows 8.1, and firstly we run read and write test on Desktop Lometer on that it has got a score of 60.6MB/s which seems to be a good score, when it comes to write it has got score of 193.8MB/s.

We processed a RAW Image on Adobe Photoshop by applying a series of filters on it and all went perfectly with any hickups, when it comes to opening and closing of these apps then also we didnt faced any issue while doing so.

Read/Write Speed :-

To test its sequential performance we run 128KB sequential test for 5-6 minutes and recorded its performance. Here in read, we found that performance was low and its due to very poor performance scaling, most of the drives reach 550MB/s at QD2 but JMF670H requires QD8 to reach out its maximum performance and it will have negative effect on gaming scenario.

However sequential write performance is average and perform like an average drive, however we were expecting faster rate.

Transfer Rate :-

We used ATTO tool to measure the transfer rate of this SSD and we were not surprised when it shows this disk can transfer data at the rate of 510MB/s read speed and 450MB/s write speed.

Power Consumption :-

Power Consumption is one important aspect you need to consider on any SSD, but still there are very less ways to test the power consumption of any SSDs out there, here we had used mixture of some third party and some of our personal experience to judge the power consumption of it.

Due to the optimization done by Adata, this SSD seems to consume more power than other competitive drives available in market, but the overall score seems to be nice.

Final Words :-

Overall this SSDs seems to be average drive, its price is something which impress us, and on top of it you will be getting five years of warranty which is something is missing in high end disks.

Adata XPG SX930

At the end we can say that it has nice build and design, comes with Acronis True Image, lightweight, supports TRIM, NCQ, S.M.A.R.T., and robust ECC and at last has nice read and write speed. Its a good option for a price you pay for it.
